Attitude of Gratitude
From the heart of Dr. Kristi Lemley
Let me begin by saying Happy Thanksgiving!
If you are like me, sometimes I focus on what is not right instead of what is or what I don't posses instead of what I do have. This tendency triggers discouragement and comparison. Thoughts of doubt about the goodness of God can enter or even cause us to wonder if God loves someone else more because they have what we do not.
How do we battle this? By thanking God for being a child of His and the blessings we do have. We need to remove our eyes from worldly things and place them back squarely on Jesus. Daily, we need to wake up and thank the Lord for His goodness and mercy. I guarantee you that your heart will have joy and peace when you do this. How can I make such a claim?
Psalm 100:4-5 states, "4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. 5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations." When we offer up our thanks and give Him praise, then we are ushered into His presence. It is in His presence that suffering diminishes and hope is restored.
If you are struggling today or feel alone because of the holiday, I encourage you to thank God for what you do have and invite Him into your space. The atmosphere will change!
