What Shoes are You Wearing?

From the heart of Dr. Kristi Lemley:

As some of you might know, I walk my dog every day. I love to get out into the fresh crisp air and walk away tension and redirect my thoughts to the goodness of the Lord. I also love to run. I used to be a runner. It was the best to tie up my running shoes and hit the open road!

An injury I sustained earlier in life has prevented me from running everyday. However, I will test the waters every now and then to see if I can run without pain. One week, I was on my third day of running just over a mile and my knees began to hurt. I was disappointed once again.

That evening, I began to research running shoes. I had no idea there were so many different kinds to choose from- shoes that felt like running on air, shoes that corrected posture, and shoes that felt like running on the pavement with no cushion are just a few. Something caught my eye about having previous injuries and a shoe that could help. I read into it. I kept reading and hope began to raise that running just might be possible. I ordered the shoes and yep, they work. I am now able to run without pain.

Why do I share this? Because some times we allow life to happen and we give up on dreams. We may not have the whole picture and need the Spirit to speak truth to us or reveal something we are blind about or don't know. I had to put on the specialty shoes to be able to run. We also have to put on the shoes that Jesus gives us so we can run the race He has set before us.

The world will try to give us their shoes of greed, selfishness, pride, status, titles, or a multitude of other actions. Yet these shoes will cause us pain. They will hurt us physically, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and relationally. We must take off these shoes and put on the ones that Jesus died to give us. We cannot run our race in the wrong shoes.

Shoes can make all the difference on if we finish a race. Paul instructs us in Ephesians 6:15, "and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace." Are we ready with the peace of knowing who we are in Christ? Are we ready with the peace that Jesus gives us to live each day to the fullest?

What shoes are you wearing today?
