What do I do when I don't know what to do?

Kristi's Answer:

This is a great question and one that I get often. How do we respond when we do not have clarity in a direction or decision?

First, continue to pray for clarity and wisdom. Read the word, worship the Lord, and love others. Do not allow frustration or confusion to enter into your heart. This will only complicate matters further, as the Lord is not the originator of confusion.

Then, I encourage people to go back to the last thing they felt the Lord speak to them. What did He say to do? What are you supposed to be focusing on? In my experience, the Lord has been silent because I am no longer doing what He asked me to do. I usually have become impatient and stepped out before it was His time. If this is the case, then take a step back and wait.

However, if you are doing what you are supposed to be doing, then continue to wait. It is not time to move forward. You do not want to step out ahead of the Lord. The Lord might be preparing other people who need to accompany you. Just rest assured that the Lord is with you and has a plan for you.

Next, in the event that a decision is needed, choose to not make a decision. There was a circumstance where I was praying about a service that my ministry was hosting. We prayed for guidance and nothing came so we made a decision anyway. We ended up spending a lot more money than was needed. We should have either not made that decision or asked for help with someone who had more experience.

Lastly, I want to restate the last sentence. If you are really unsure and feel you HAVE to make a decision, seek godly counsel. Chances are an outsider to the situation can see things that you may not notice. There is safety in an abundance of counselors.

Above all, know that God hears your prayers and is with you. Even if you make a mistake, God knows where to find you and He will move you back on the correct path. You have not ruined anything that God cannot turn around.

Feel free to comment below on how you have handled this situation.
